Jaccob McKay is a photographer and craftsman from the hills of Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges

Founded in 2012, Jaccob McKay Studios is a media and design studio specialising in creating images and products inspired by the beautiful natural world of our surroundings in Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges. From these natural surroundings, Jaccob draws inspiration and resources to produce his exclusive range of hand crafted homewares, jewellery and giftware.

Photography has been a hobby for Jaccob since 2009, when he first had a chance to experiment with a DSLR. Later that year he won his first awards in a local photography competition, taking first and second place. In 2011, Jaccob began photographing professionally and the next year began a Bachelor of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts.

During his time at the VCA, Jaccob began to experiment with sculpture and the mediums of wood and metals. In exploration of these materials he created his first piece of jewellery: an oak leaf pendant, which later became the logo for Jaccob McKay Studios. Needing something to put this necklace in - to give it as a gift - Jaccob created his first design of a timber box made from a piece of black locust wood which had been felled on his property. Since then Jaccob has been crafting unique pieces from otherwise useless pieces of timber and recycled metal.
